Dr Vee Maliyasena MBBS (Hons) FRACP is a Respiratory and General Physician committed to providing holistic, evidence-based care. She understands that seeing a specialist can sometimes be an overwhelming experience. Vee believes that educating and empowering her patients enables them to become active participants in their own healthcare. She takes the time to explain diagnoses, investigations and management options in clear, easy-to-understand language, encouraging patients to ask questions and participate in decisions about their care.

Vee is a Respiratory Physician based in Brisbane. She specialises in the diagnosis and management of adults with a broad range of respiratory disorders. She has a particular interest in the assessment of unexplained breathlessness, recognising that symptoms are often due to multiple contributing factors rather than a single diagnosis. Her combined training in Respiratory and General Medicine enables her to take a comprehensive and holistic approach to complex presentations.

Vee graduated from Monash University with Honours in 2003 before completing her residency and Basic Physician Training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. She undertook specialist training in both Respiratory and General Medicine at several major teaching hospitals across Australia, including Royal North Shore Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2012.

During her specialist training, Vee undertook research with the Queensland Centre for Pulmonary Transplantation and Vascular Diseases at The Prince Charles Hospital. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented at national conferences.

Following completion of her specialist training, Vee was appointed as a full-time Staff Specialist at The Prince Charles Hospital. In 2018, she established her private practice. She currently works as a Senior Staff Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and is also a Visiting Medical Officer at St Vincent's Private Hospital Northside.

Vee is passionate about medical education. She is a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland, actively supervises and mentors physician trainees, and previously served as Director of Advanced Training (General Medicine) at The Prince Charles Hospital.

Outside medicine, Vee enjoys spending time with her family (including her beloved dog, Toby), baking, dancing and reading..
