Appointment & Cancellation Policy
Thank you for choosing Dr Vee Maliyasena's practice.
We understand that life is sometimes unpredictable, and we appreciate that illness, family emergencies and unexpected events can occasionally affect your ability to attend an appointment. Our Appointment & Cancellation Policy is designed to help us provide timely access to specialist care while respecting the time of all patients.
Our commitment to you
Dr Maliyasena aims to provide each patient with thoughtful, unhurried specialist care. New patient consultations are typically one hour in duration, and follow-up appointments are carefully scheduled to allow adequate time for discussion, examination and review of your investigations.
If you need to cancel or reschedule
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.
Providing advance notice allows us to offer your appointment to another patient waiting for specialist care.
Appointments can be cancelled or rescheduled by contacting the rooms on (07) 3519 6031 during business hours. If you need to cancel outside business hours, please leave a voicemail or send an email. The time your message is received will determine whether sufficient notice has been provided.
Late cancellations and non-attendance
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, or failure to attend your appointment (without prior notification) will incur a $200 cancellation fee.
Dr Maliyasena reviews your referral, investigations and relevant medical records before your appointment to ensure your consultation time is used as effectively as possible. Your consultation, together with any lung function testing required, is reserved specifically for you.
When less than 24 hours' notice is provided, the appointment cannot be offered to another patient waiting for specialist review.
The cancellation fee reflects the preparation undertaken before your appointment and the specialist time reserved exclusively for your care.
Exceptional circumstances
We recognise that genuine emergencies and unforeseen circumstances do occur.
If exceptional circumstances have prevented you from attending your appointment, please contact our reception team as soon as possible so that we can discuss your individual situation.
Repeated missed appointments
Repeated late cancellations or non-attendance make it difficult for us to provide continuity of care and reduce appointment availability for other patients awaiting specialist review.
Where there is a pattern of repeated late cancellations or non-attendance, we may be unable to offer further appointments, and your referring doctor will be advised accordingly.
